Dear Friend,
I am writing to you today to help people severely affected by Cyclone Thane which has devastated Cuddalore District in Tamilnadu and Puducherry. As the rest of India was preparing to celebrate New Year Eve, Cyclone Thane took 48 lives and impacted more than 800,000 people on December 30.
As a first response, our office in Chennai has assessed the extent of damage, and the need of the hour is shelter, electricity and clean water. CARE is already working with affected families providing them with tarpaulins, candles, matchboxes as well as floor mats and hygiene kits particularly focusing on pregnant mothers and adolescent girls.
Our aim is to reach out to 20,000 most vulnerable families immediately, and going forward build 100-150 low cost houses for the poorest of the poor who have lost their dwellings and have no means to reconstruct them. These families need Rs 2.5 crores to rebuild their lives. Here and NOW.
While we will pool in our resources, we must reach out for funds from people like you who have helped so many in the past by donating to worthwhile causes. I look forward to your help and contribution. Please donate online at bit.ly/caredonate OR send your cheque/draft in favour of CARE India to E- 46/12 Okhla Industrial Area, Phase II, New Delhi 110020.
Kind Thanks,
Dr. Muhammad Musa CEO & Country Director, CARE India PS: CARE has been working in India for over 60 years in the areas of health, education, livelihoods and disaster response. Specifically in the Cuddalore district, CARE has worked since 2005 on rehabilitation and reconstruction projects through the Tsunami Response Program to address needs of poor and marginalized communities.
