APPEAL FOR HELP | YOUTH IN NEED OF URGENT MEDICAL TREATMENT | CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE

Background:

Jalaluddin Mir is a 24 year old boy from a family of very modest means hailing frm Ashmuqam in Anantnag district of Jammu & Kashmir. His father Mohammad Ramzan Mir is a caretaker in a shrine. The patient, Jalal, works for the J&K Muslim Waqf Board on a temporary basis earning only Rs. 2000/- per month.

In October 2011, Jalaluddin Mir was brought by his family to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar for treatment of the renal problems he had somehow developed. But the doctors at SKIMS failed to diagnose his condition or even acknowledge the problem. As his condition deteriorated, his family was compelled to shift him to Sri Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi on the 1st of Feb, 2012.

Current status:

The doctors have advised kidney transplant. The family has managed to find a donor who is also being examined at Ganga Ram hospital and the expenses of those tests are also being borne by the family.

The patient is being examined by:

Dr A K Bhalla (Senior Nephrologist)

Dr Sudhir Chaddha (Urologist)

Expenses Incurred so far:

On being brought to the hospital, the patient had to be examined on an emergency basis in Private OPD and the tests cost the family Rs. 20,000

The donor was examined in General OPD at a cost of Rs. 4000

The patient has been put on the drug Ceptum 500 mg which costs Rs. 100 per tablet.

                                                        Expected Expenses

Dialysis has not been started yet but will have to start soon and it will cost Rs. 5000 per session.

The patient's condition has been diagnosed CKD with obstructive uropathy, an acute form of renal disease where inability to pass urine normally due to obstruction has caused damage to his kidneys. This will require kidney transplant, as mentioned earlier, and the surgery costs around Rs. 6 lakh. The date of surgery is 25th of March, 2012.

There's no availability of bed in General OPD (cheaper). Beds are available only in Private OPD but the family cannot afford it as it costs Rs. 5000 per night. However, the patient is going to need admission soon.

The patient, Jalal, is being attended to by his sister and her brother Javeed Ahmad. Far away from home, Javeed is struggling to afford an extensive and prolonged treatment to his ailment which, if left untreated, would turn his condition critical. His CT scan report from the hospital is enclosed below.

This is a fervent appeal to all who could to step forward and join hands in contributing to his treatment.

Dear Kiran,
Here are the details of the six-year-old boy, Aniket Uday Valanju, who needs to be operated upon for ASD (Atrial Septal Defect). He is being treated by Dr S. S. Rao from Kokilaben Ambani Hospital. The estimated cost of the surgery is Rs 1,50,000 from admission to discharge.

It would be wonderful if his father, our office boy, Uday Valanju could be helped with monetary donations. The cheques / Demand drafts should be drawn in favour of 'Mandke Foundation'.

Attached is an appeal letter from Dr Suresh G. Rao, Paediatric & Congenital Heart Surgeon (Ph no.: (022) 30937295. You may contact the hospital at the given number for any queries that you may have.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Archana Pai Kulkarni
