Unreasonable Institute Challenge - 2011

Help send Cycle Chalao! to the Unreasonable Institute! Click here to
support us now - the race to raise Rs 3.15 lakhs is on! In last seven
days 34 people have pledged Rs.65,000! Help us keep the movement!

Hi everyone! I'm Raj and I'm the founder of Cycle Chalao!, India's
fastest-growing cycle sharing program. I'm THRILLED to announce that
we've been selected as a finalist for the Unreasonable Institute. Now
I need your help to get there - and then to get all of India cycling!

The Unreasonable Institute is one of the most exciting events in the
world of social entrepreneurship. In June, Unreasonable Institute will
bring 25 young social entrepreneurs to the beautiful American mountain
city of Boulder, Colorado. For six weeks, the fellows will live and
work with 60 world-class mentors, pitch to hundreds of investors, and
prepare to launch financially self-sustaining, globally scalable
ventures that can serve the needs of at least one million people. This
is the support that Cycle Chalao! needs to transform India.

Cycle Chalao! is a social venture promoting cycling in India by
establishing bicycle sharing networks to provide bicycles on rent for
short distance traveling. The vision of the project is to 'Integrate
cycling in the mainstream public transportation thereby reducing
traffic, air and noise pollution'. By providing point to point bicycle
rental services citizens will empowered to have an environment
friendly, economic and healthier way of traveling short distances.

I'm one of 45 finalists. I will only make it to Unreasonable if I'm
one of the first 25 of us to raise Rs 3.8 Lakh by 11th March, 2011.
The time has already started and we need to raise that money as soon
as possible to be in the first 25!

Rs 3.8 lakh is a lot, but I'm not looking for big donations. The idea
is to get as many people donating as possible - the limit per person
is Rs 2500 for current week i.e. till 3 Feb (then the limit goes up to
Rs 5000 i.e. from 3rd Feb to 9th Feb). If we don't make it as one of
the first 25, we'll get to keep what we raised and use it in our
venture.

So PLEASE sign on today and donate whatever you can. If you want to
donate by cash, cheque or wire transfer, email me at
raj@cyclechalao.com or call me at +91 9867987031. Spread the message
as far and wide as possible - to your professional networks, at your
university, to your friends, at your cycle shop - wherever! All
sponsors get recognition on Unreasonable's website and ours. Click
here to see the FAQ's and tax deduction facility for sponsors from
U.S.

Send us to the Unreasonable Institute so we can help end pollution,
fight congestion and make cycling THE way to get around in India.

THANK YOU for your support! Get in touch with me if you have any questions -

Celebrations time...

Among the nicer things that have happened over the past year or so is that three of our IH team members have got married, two of them to each other.
Aparna and Shyaam finally made it official, and Dilnavaz tied the knot with her beau Abhi. We had a long overdue celebratory lunch at Barbeque Nation yesterday. Since neither Abhi nor Shyaam could make it to the lunch, here's Dilnavaz and Aparna feeding the cake to each other.

Congratulations dears, and here's wishing both you lovely couples love and laughter for all the years ahead.

Help for Uttarakhand

Subject: Request for help for landslide affected people in Uttarakhand

Dear Friends,

Hope you are well and had a great beginning to the new year.

I am writing to ask for some help, hoping you will consider this
request and also pass this letter along to others.

You might have heard about the landslides in Uttarakhand due to the
heavy rains in September 2010. Along with the destruction of lives and
property, the disaster also made the areas inaccessible, making it
difficult to send aid for the affected people. The people have been
trying to pick up the pieces and reconstruct their lives to start a
fresh new year. To aid in this, Dinesh, a young person from
Uttarakhand whom I know has been trying to collect and transport
relief materials for the affected people. With support from Goonj, a
very active relief agency, he has been able to get a large amount of
material including clothes, ration materials, household items etc for
500 affected families in the area. The transport of the material (100
gunny bags) to Almora and then the affected villages requires a total
of 22,000 rupees. We are trying to raise this money through donations
from friends and supporters. I am forwarding Dinesh's request for help
and attaching a letter that he has written with this email.

Dinesh is from a small village called Garam Paani situated close to
Almora and has been working on social issues with local people
independently for the last few years. He does not have a registered
organisation and has sought support from a local body called for
managing the accounting and proper use of these funds. I have
volunteered to collect in Delhi and send to Dinesh by the 31st of
January. Even small contributions would go a long way in ensuring that
the materials reach the right people in time and I strongly urge you
to donate whatever you wish and can spare for this cause. I know
Dinesh and can vouch for his good intentions and commitment towards
the local people.

I am based in Delhi and can organise to meet you and collect your
contribution. Any contribution and your support in forwarding this
request to others would be of immense help.

Thanks!

Manak.

PS: Manak's email id is at the top of this mail. Please contact him
directly if you wish to contribute in any way.
